The Great A Series of Unfortunate Events re-read

I have been a fan of Lemony Snicket for as long as I can remember. As a kid I was enchanted by the miserable, never-ending woeful life of the Baudelaire orphans as documented in the dark and often comical A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Fast forward to 2015 when it was announced that Netflix was about to start pre-production on an adaptation of the books, transforming it into a new series. Anyone that has Netflix knows that they make some amazing tv shows. Orange is the New Black is a firm favourite. Sense8 tantalised people early last year and the political warfare of House of Cards has left me breathless on more than one occasion as Frank Underwood claws his way to the oval office. So imagine how bloody excited I was when this announcement was made. Answer... very bloody excited. For real!

So I have decided to re-read all 13 books in preparation for the new series. It's supposedly due to debut later this year. I've already started as a matter of fact, and have polished off the first two books. The Bad Beginning and The Reptile Room. I have not yet decided if I am going to give them full reviews. Or if I'll just update the page I've set up in the sidebar (link here also, for those who just want to click rather than go searching...) with my brief thoughts about the series as I go through the books. Either way I am excited to re-read them and see how they fare ten years on from my original reading as a fourteen year old.

Several years ago now, I was a massive fan of the A Series of Unfortunate Events series by Lemony Snicket. There was an air of mystery about them. This sense of fun and I couldn't wait to read the next instalment. Although, for myself, the series ended somewhat disappointingly, the news that there was a new series coming from Snicket excited me all these years later.

I'd been quite excited to be honest, but when I actually got the book and read it it was kind of a mixed experience. It was nice to be thrown into complete mystery again but now aged 21, I found it a tad off... Almost boring. The fact that so little happens in the book and the actual way it is written actually annoyed me slightly. I'm finding it hard to say what I actually want to - I don't know how to say it.

I shall read the second book. I can't not. Who know's... maybe it'll be the turning point in the series for me and I'll love it. I didn't dislike this book - I just didn't love it. One thing is for sure though, the Snicket quirkiness is still there so it felt familiar and was just what I needed at the time of reading.

All The Wrong Questions is a series of four books by Lemony Snicket, famed for the awesome A Series of Unfortunate Events series... The first book Who Could That Be At This Hour? was released last October, and my review should be up soon if I ever get it finished... Yikes! Anyway, today the title and US cover art was released. Luckily it will give us a good idea of what to expect on the UK cover itself which is only slightly different from that of the US edition (or at least it was for the last book...)...

It is called... When Did You See Her Last? and it is out in October and looks a little like this...

I for one am looking forward to it. I wasn't overly impressed by the first book but it's Lemony Snicket and I'll read anything Lemony Snicket. Fact.
