Scarlett Dedd [Review]

Written by: Cathy Brett.
Published by: Headline.
Format: Paperback.
Released: 2nd September 2010.
Rating: 4/5.

Official synopsis: "You're dead Scarlett... Previously a poor taste jibe from school frenemies, now a statement of fact. Scarlett is absolutely mortified (in more ways than one) to discover that she's accidentally killed herself while trying to get out of a school trip. Even worse, she's taken her entire family with her. Life as a ghost is pretty dull - if only some of her friends were dead too...!"

When I started reading this book, I just knew that I'd really enjoy it. And I did. It's entertaining and incredibly funny. Brett's writing is fantastic and her illustrations are somewhat phenomenal. They really add to the story and make for an entertaining reading experience.

The characters are brilliant. Scarlett's friends are my favourites. Cathy really gets the immaturity of teenagers (we're not always as mature as we like to think, let's be honest) just right. In some books written for the YA audience, the main characters become somewhat older than their years, but in this book they're proper kids, and I love that! Scarlett's voice is perfect.

The blog entries really added a fantastic element to the book - they were placed perfectly and added originality to the story. It was quite a fun book to read!

Scarlett Dedd is overall, a fantastic little book that will make you laugh all the way through. If you're not a fan of scary ghost stories, then check this book out! I'd recommend this to everyone!

My thanks to Sam at Headline for my copy! :)
