The Fall of Five US cover art...

So the UK cover for The Fall of Five, the fourth book in Pittacus Lore's Lorien Legacies was revealed last month and now we get a glimpse at what the American edition looks like. I for one love their cover and like that they're publisher hasn't changed the style at all. Our once seem to change every book so they don't really match that well, but oh well - they're still good!

It's out in August and I cannot wait!!

The Rise of Nine gets a new look paperback cover!

Due for publication in June, the paperback edition of The Rise of Nine, the third book in the Lorien Legacies series by Pittacus Lore, is getting a bit of a facelift. Revealed yesterday by the official UK Facebook page for the series, run by publishers Puffin, it's totally different to the look of the hardback edition which was released last August and I for one like it. It's striking, that's for sure! I will be honest though, I prefer the hardback which was just too damn epic!

And it is definitely getting me excited for Book Four. Is it August yet? Wake me up when it gets here! Thanks!

The Rise of Nine by Pittacus Lore [Review]

Written by: Pittacus Lore.
Published by: Penguin/Razorbill.
Format: Hardback.
Released: 30th August (28th in the US).
Rating: 5/5.

Official synopsis: "Until I met John Smith, Number Four, I'd been on the run alone, hiding and fighting to stay alive. Together we are much more powerful. But it could only last so long before we had to separate to find the others ...I went to Spain to find Seven, and I found even more, including a tenth member of the Garde who escaped from Lorien alive. Ella is younger than the rest of us, but just as brave. Now we're looking for the others - including John. But so are they. They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. They caught me in New York - but I escaped. I am Number Six. They want to finish what they started. But they'll have to fight us first.
Becoming something on an annual event, the Lorien Legacies books come a long and surprise me every time. Just when you think they can't get any better, they do. And The Rise of Nine has completely and utterly blown me away. It's taken I Am Number Four, and The Power of Six and said, "hey, we can do better than that" and boom. Here it is. Gone is the sometimes clunky and awkward dialogue (there's still a bit but then there are in most books, right?) and the story seems to be coming together beautifully.

The book kicks off a day after the concluding events in the previous book, The Power of Six. The Garde are coming together, slowly. They are grouping. Six is with Seven (Marina) and Ten (Ella), along with Ten's Cepan, Crayton. Together they are on a mission to find Number 8 in India. And Four, he's with Nine, still in America recuperating after the events in the last book. Still scattered to the four corners of the globe and getting closer to each other, they've never been in far greater danger. The Mogodorian leader, Setrakus Ra is on Earth, and he means business.

But now, not only are they facing the threat of the Mogodorian's, but they have a new enemy. One a little closer to home, and one that they would never of dreamed of... And it just so happens, they are working with the Mogs as a team... Danger really is on all sides!

I really do think I'll struggle to get out just how much I love this book. I know I gushed in my reviews for I Am Number Four and The Power of Six when they came out, but The Rise of Nine is in a league of it's own. It's epic. It has this feeling while reading it that I just can't explain. It's an exciting book. There have been moments with the two books past that you could skip and it wouldn't really damage the story at all, but with this one, every single page has it's purpose and you can really feel it. The plot in this book seems so much more thought out and thrilling. I really did not want to stop reading at all. It flows so well - the writing is so much smoother.

The characters themselves are also starting to become more fleshed out. They seem to be coming into their own. Discovering new Legacies, and just generally growing up.

The book is told from three points of view. Four, of course, Six, and Seven. I was hoping we'd get a bit from Nine but maybe it's a bit too early in the series. Maybe book four? Again, something which does annoy me is this whole Pittacus Lore being a Loric Elder and actually being the one writting it, but when it's written in first person I think this idea really detracts from the story. I do think the books benefit from being in first person, the action sequences in this book certainly have you on the edge of your seat and feeling like you're right there, being shot at by Mog cannons and the like. Minor details, I know, but still! I did say in my review for The Power of Six that perhaps they're all one person and will merge at the end... Who knows? It's just a theory.

And the conclusion. WOW! Just... Wow! I so want to know what happens next, but I am slightly annoyed with the last page. It just ends. I want more. Now! Argh! The wait for the fourth book is going to be such a pain! Such a freaking pain! But I'll sit here quietely, patiently, and one day we will know what happens to the Loric children and their poor ruined planet.

Overall, an utterly addictive read that I cannot recommend enough - seriously, just check the series out! You will not regret it. My thanks go to Sarah over at Puffin for actually bringing these books to the UK! You are amazing! And thanks of course to Puffin for the gorgeous review copy. You guys know how to make a book look so stunning!

The Rise of Nine gets last minute cover re-design!

The Rise of Nine is the third book in Pittacus Lore's Lorien Legacies series, and is out in the UK on 30th August. Not far off then, no? Now, the cover for the YA edition of the book has been changed. We're now going to get something which looks a little more firey...

Hmm... I dunno. It's nice. But now it doesn't really fit with the previous covers. It does a bit, but you can't really see the Nine logo. It's nice though. I'm currently reading this, and it is freaking awesome! Whatever it looks like, it's brilliant!

The Rise of Nine cover art!

Okay, so last week the US cover art was released for Pittacus Lore's The Rise of Nine, the third book in the awesome Lorien Legacies series. Due to be published 21st August in America, and 30th August over here in England, the US copy looks a little like this...

I like the whole stony, kind of desert-ish feel to it. But the colour of the title just puts me off. It'd be so nice otherwise. And the whole placement of the text. It covers the logo for Number Nine! No!!!

Anyway, now, the UK covers have been released, and as with the past two books, we're getting two covers. An adult edition and YA edition!

ADULT EDITION || YA EDITION

Now, I like both covers for different reasons. The adult edition is quite simple, and while it doesn't match the previous two covers so much, it's snazzy. I like that the logo for Nine is made of birds, and wonder what this means for the book. But I don't like how RISE and NINE are big and the and of are small. Kind of weird looking. But still. And it matches the review copies I have so that's a bonus.

And then the YA cover. I like that it's colourful and it matches the cover art we got for The Power of Six. Overall, very very good and I cannot wait to read the book when it comes out!

News: I Am Number Four Lost Files 2: Nine's Legacy Publishes Tomorrow!

If like me, you are a fan of the Lorien Legacies series by Pittacus Lore, then no doubt August seems a very, very long way away right now, The Rise of Nine just a distant sight on the horizon. Well, this might help ease the wait... A new, exclusive ebook is set to be released tomorrow and it's set to give us a bit of background to a character we met at the end of the second book (The Power of Six), Nine.

It's called The Lost Files: Nine's Legacy and is the second in a series of "Lost Files", the first of which, Six's Legacy was published last July just before the second book.

Nine's Legacy will be available tomorrow (28th February) for Kindle, and other e-readers priced just £1.49. WHAT A BARGAIN! That's $3.99 for US readers. But still. What a bargain?! I for one cannot wait!

Number Nine - when John frees him from his cell in the power of six, he's ferocious, reckless, and ready to fight back. But being held captive changes a person - even a Lorien. Before meeting John Smith, aka Number Four, before being held prisoner, Nine was hunting down Mogadorians in Chicago with his Cepan, Sandor. What happened there would change Nine forever. . Now you can have an exclusive look at what Nine was like before his capture, and read about his dramatic escape from his point of view.

2012: Books of Interest (Part 2)

When I started to make the last post I hadn't thought I'd find so many books I'm excited for! 2012 is shaping up to be such a good year for YA fiction so I guess we spread into Part 2!

We jump forward to August as at the moment, I can't think of any books in May - July... Annoying but I'm sure there'll be plenty. I just can't think of any at this second. Ha...

Anyway... AUGUST will see the release of the third book in Pittacus Lore's Lorien Legacies. Titled The Rise of Nine it is so far away that no cover art or synopsis has been released! But then that's how the rest of this post is going to pan out... None of them have covers or synopsis' and one doesn't even have an official title yet!!

So... to SEPTEMBER... which see's the launch of a brand new series from (quite possibly my all time favourite author...) Michelle Paver! The series is called Gods and Warriors and is set in the Mediterranean. Still pre-history but a lot nearer to our time than the adventures of Torak, Renn and Wolf in Paver's phenomenal Chronicles of Ancient Darkness which took place in the ancient forests of Europe... At the moment there's no title for Book One. All that's known is this brief summary which Michelle released herself as a teaser:

"The setting will be the Mediterranean, in the Bronze Age, a few thousand years after Torak’s adventures. It is such a rich, spectacular, exciting world to inhabit (and one I’ve loved since I was a child) – a time of chariots, ocean-going ships, slaves, warriors, myths and magic. My main character is Hylas, a goatherd, a thief and an outsider. His story starts in the mountains of Greece where in a single night, his world is overturned, setting him on a journey that will take him far from the mountains and across the seas. Like Torak, Hylas will form lasting bonds with animals... A dolphin, a lion cub and a falcon will all weave in and out of the stories."

Want! Now!

And finally we come to OCTOBER the third and final book in L. A. Weatherly's Angel trilogy will be released. It's called Angel Fever, and that, at the moment, is all we know!

Also in OCTOBER, or quite possibly NOVEMBER (date not yet set in stone...) Walker Books will, at last, be publishing Oblivion. The fifth, and final, book in Anthony Horowitz' epic, thrilling, and damn right addictive Power of Five series, it looks set to be the most explosive book he's written yet. It's already sitting in at over 160,000 words, and he's not even finished yet! Blimey! I remember reading an interview that Anthony did years ago, when Raven's Gate, the first book in the series, came out and he said it'd bee 800 pages long. He wasn't kidding!

And now he's released the first chapter as a Christmas surprise for his readers! How cool (check out my post about that here), but it only has me even more excited wanting to read the next 790 or so pages!

So those are my picks for what is to come in 2012. I can't wait to see what I've missed, and stuff yet to be announced. 2011 has been a real corker, but I think 2012 is about to kick some ass!

Argh! Exciting. Sadly for me it's not out till August 2012 but that's great for you as it gives you plenty of times to read the first 2 instalments and check out the film for the first book!

The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore [Review]

Now, I will say from the off, that I am going to try and keep this as spoiler free as possible, but there may be a few little slips here and there. If you really do not want ANY single detail in the book to be revealed, then do not read on! I'd hate to spoil the experience for you!

Written by: Pittacus Lore.
Published by: Penguin (UK), HarperCollins (US)
Format: Hardback.
Released: 23rd August 2011.
Rating: 5/5.

Official synopsis: "We are the last defence.

I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened to John Smith. To the world he's a mystery, but to me ... he's one of us. Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us, if we all still believe in our mission.

There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another, but our Legacies are developing and soon we'll be ready to fight. Is John Number Four - and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who might be strong enough to bring the six of us together?

They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio ... and failed. I am Number Seven. And I'm ready to fight."

When I reviewed I Am Number Four last Summer, just prior to it's publication, I said: "What we have here ladies and gentlemen, is what is sure to become the next global phenomenon of the literary world. Do not miss out!", and I have to say that The Power of Six only furthers that statement for me! When reading it, you just get the sense that this is something special.

Taking off pretty much where the first book left of, John Smith, aka Number Four, is on the run with his friend Sam, his dog/transformer/chimea, Bernie Kossar, and Number Six who joined them towards the end of I Am Number Four. The book also heavily features a brand new Loric, Number Seven who is living with her Cepan in Spain. I know that some were unhappy at finding out that there'd be a new Loric child in this book as many thought from the synopsis that it'd just be about Number Seven and we'd see nothing of Numbers Four and Six, but that is not the case. There's just about the right balance between both of the scenarios: Number Four and Number Six on the run from the FBI in America, believed to be terrorists after the destruction of the High School in Paradise, Ohio, and Number Seven in the convent trying to persuade her Cepan that they need to move, to train, that the Mogodorian's are coming and there isn't time to waste.

And boy those Mogadorian's don't let up do they? After the high profile events in America making International news, the Mogs are even more hellbent on destroying the Loric children before they can unite when they will become invincible. In this book we learn a bit more about the background of why they were chosen as the ones destined to return to Lorien and return it to its former glory, and also we learn just who or what exactly was on that second ship that left Lorien on that fateful day. As well as that some other surprises which spring up every now and again - some I'll be honest I would never of thought of! And while we're on the subject of the Mogodorian's, we also get a few glimpses of their leader and let me tell you, he is one scary, scary alien. Looking forward to seeing more of what he has to offer as the series progresses.

Again, I will say what I said last year for I Am Number Four, I love the whole idea that this is being told by a Loric elder, Pittacus Lore, but the fact that it's written in first person really detracts from this for me. I do have a little theory that perhaps all of the Nine Garde are actually one, and that one is actually Pittacus Lore chronicling the story from the future, but then I realised thinking about this actually hurt my head so I stopped. The writting is however just as addictive and captivating as that of the first.

The climax of this book is just as dramatic as that for the first, I want to say so much but am forced to say so little as it would spoil it completely. And the fact that really, we're getting two climaxes (one in America, one in Spain - which might I just say is just as dramatic if not more so!) for the price of one is brilliant! Just believe me when I say that it's nail bitting, fast paced and taut with suspense! It left me unbelievable gagging for Book Three which I'm praying is out next year!

Overall I think this book will please the legions of fans that banded together after reading Book One. It's got suspense, action, fight scenes, a teeny bit of romance is chucked in the mix too - but not enough to make boys turn away, put the book down and run a mile, it's subtle and handled really well. A great read that deserves to be a bestseller. My only hope is that the film for I Am Number Four did well enough for the makers to actually adapt this one too because the film is a brilliant adaptation (one of my favourite book to films adaptations ever...) and one only hopes that Dreamworks can work some magic on this one to!

My thanks go to the lovely Sarah at Puffin for sending out my copy after the first one sent out when walkies in the post! Cannot thank you enough for sending me this and must apologise for bombarding you with tweets while reading it!

News: The Power of Six Cover Art!

The Power of Six is the second book of The Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore. It continues the tale of nine aliens hidden as humans as they hide awaiting news/and hoping to return, to their home planet of Lorien. Like I Am Number Four, there are going to be two covers. One is the adult edition, and the other the YA edition! Check them out below!!

Pretty good stuff huh?! The green one is the adult edition, and the blue one the YA. I like both. I like the simplicity of the adult edition but also like the different effects and layers to the YA one! Either way, it's out on  23rd August!

I Am Number Four [Review]

Written by: Pittacus Lore.
Published by: Razorbill/Penguin.
Format: Hardback.
Released: 26th August 2010.
Rating: 5/5.

Official synopsis: "In the beginning we were nine. We left when we were very young, almost too young to remember. Almost. And now . . . Three are gone. We are here to keep our race alive, which was almost entirely obliterated. We’re just trying to survive. Six are left. But we are hunted, and the hunters won’t stop until they’ve killed us all. They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. I am Number Four. I know that I am next."

What we have here ladies and gentlemen, is what is sure to become the next global phenomenon of the literary world. Do not miss out!

One of the most hyped titles of 2010, I Am Number Four, begins with a bang. The middle part of the book is quite slow, but once things step up a notch, it's a roller coaster.

John Smith has lived under many names in his life. The last being Daniel Jones. He is living a life on the run with his Keeper, Henri, as they hide from the Mogadorian's. An evil alien race who wiped their home planet, Lorien, of all life and are now intent on killing them. The last remaining Loric. Nine children in all. All destined to become Garde, the fighters for their planet. Three are dead, and thanks to a Loric charm placed on them, they can only be killed in numerical order. So the stakes have risen, as John is Number 4. The next in line to die. But soon, trying to stay in one place for a reasonable amount of time is going to get a lot harder, as John begins to go through a kind of puberty unique to his race, with some pretty weird, but interesting, changes coming to him. Legacies. I will say no more!

They move to Ohio and John finally finds a sense of normality. He makes a friend in the form of alien obsessed Sam, and even gets a girlfriend, Sarah. Things seem good. Peaceful for once. And Number 4 hopes that finally they can stop running, at least for a long time. But things don't always go as planned. The Mogadorians are near. And with every passing day, they get closer. Soon, John is going to have to make a decision. To run, and leave his first true love and only friend, or to stay and risk not only his life, but everyone he cares about. Soon, the time to fight will come as the Mogadorians seem prepared to kill off a second planet after killing off their own, Mogadore and Lorien.

Despite loving the book, I have two minor criticism. The first: The book is supposed to of been written by a Loric elder, named Pittacus Lore. And yet it is in first person, told from Number 4's point of view. For me, this didn't seem to make sense and kind of confused me a little, if I am honest. I get the people behind the book wanting to create a behind the scenes story, but if it's being written by Mr. Lore, then I would of thought it'd be third person. Probably that's just me. It certainly doesn't take away from the book. And my second criticism falls to the climax of the book. It's brilliant, don't get me wrong, but at points it feels drawn out, some of it even downright confused me and I had to read it again.

Nonetheless, this is a fantastic book. Full of vivid imagery, both here on Earth and on Lorien. It's gripping, even in the slow parts. I've never really read anything about aliens before, and I have to admit I was slightly worried going into this, but these aren't your average, green little men with odd shaped heads and huge bulging eyes. I am hugely excited for the second book in the series, The Power of Six due next year, and indeed the rest of the series. And of course, the film adaptation being released next year also.

A guaranteed Number 1 bestseller that teens and adults alike will love.

Thank you so much to Ashley Wilks at Penguin for my copy!

Waiting On Wednesday (5): I Am Number Four

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore.

Published by: Puffin.
Format: Hardback.
Released: 26th August 2010.

I Am Number Four is now one of my most anticipated titles for release this year. I was just browsing Amazon and was caught by the cover art (looks amazing, doesn't it?!). I read the synopsis and instantly fell in love it, and am now very excited to read it. It just sounds utterly brilliant.

It's also being made into a movie due for release next year!
